Benefits in Skincare

 

Lately it is hard to walk into a bakery, grocery, or restaurant without running into something featuring green tea.  It has become a popular ingredient in the food business found in a variety of delicacies from from cakes, noodles, beverages, and etc.

And green tea has now become a popular ingredient in skincare and beauty and a commonly found ingredient in the formulas of many skincare and beauty products. So why is green tea one of the most popular ingredients found in skincare formulas?

Catechins

Catechins are bioflavinoids found in green tea that have shown to have effective antioxidant, anticancer, antibacterial, and antiviral properties.  They have also been known to demonstrate anti-inflammatory functions and benefits.  One of the major catechins found in green tea was shown to be the most effective agent against skin inflammation and cancerous changes in the skin.

Caffeine

Caffeine is not only found in your daily cup of coffee but can also be found in a cup of green tea.  There is about 35-70 mg of caffeine in ever 8oz. cup of green tea.  Caffeine doesn't only help you stay away but is also a very helpful ingredient for the skin, especially for dark circles and puffiness.  It helps calm inflamed blood vessels that causes dark circles while soothing puffiness and tightening the skin.  So save up those used green tea bags for getting rid of puffy eyes!

Some creative ways to use Green Tea for skincare:

Green Tea Bags: Save and store your used green tea bags in the freezer or fridge for placing them on your eyes on those days you wake up to dark circles or puffy eyes! Green Tea "quick spritz pick me up" Mist:  Boil filtered water and dunk some green tea and steep for about an hr.  Remove the green tea and let the tea fully cool before placing into a spritzer bottle.  Make sure to keep spritzer bottle refrigerated or kept in a cool place while using. Green Tea Deodorizer Bags: Save and dry your used green tea bags to stuff them in your sneakers overnight to help eliminate odor and keep your kicks smelling fresh!
